Virtual Ability International Disability Rights Affirmation Conference 2013
"LET ME IN"
8.30 am to 6.30 pm PDT Friday 27th September 2013
6.00 am to 6.30 pm PDT Saturday 28th September 2013
___________________
The third annual International Disability Rights Affirmation Conference, sponsored by Virtual Ability, Inc., will be held this week on Friday, September 27th and Saturday, 28th September 2013. This year's theme is "LET ME IN.” The sixteen conference sessions highlight diverse perspectives on accessibility and accessibility legislation from around the world.

Alice Krueger, president of Virtual Ability, Inc., states: “For persons with disabilities, access to information is critical. We must be included in research about the world, and our needs must be considered in policy development. We also should have access to buildings, transportation, and all the other resources used by persons who do not have disabilities. Having access to the full function of communities in which we engage is equally important. “Let me in” is a logical follow-up to last year’s IDRAC conference which focused on communities people with disabilities belong to.”

All sessions will take place at The Sojourner Auditorium on Virtual Ability Island within Second Life .

An impressive list of speakers has been brought together for the Conference, including Keynote Speakers, Dr. Leticia De León and Dr John Stone.

Dr Leticia De Leon is an Associate Professor at the University of Texas – Pan American. She teaches in a teacher preparation program that certifies early childhood, bilingual, and special education elementary teachers.

Dr. John Stone is the Director of the Center for International Rehabilitation Research Information and Exchange (CIRRIE) at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

The full times and details of events and the speakers can be found at blog.virtualability.org together with information about the Organisation and its works.

This year, in the spirit of access, the Conference will also be broadcast live onto the Web. The live broadcast is at www.livestream.com/metaversetvbusiness together with a facility for text chat during the events. If you wish to embed the broadcast into your own site, there is an embed code on that page for that purpose.

"

About Coffee Morning

What's the World's Biggest Coffee Morning about?

Eating cake at a coffee morningThe World's Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan Cancer Support's biggest fundraising event. We ask people across the UK - and sometimes further afield - to hold a coffee morning, where donations on the day are made to Macmillan. In 2012 115,000 people signed up to coffee morning, raising a record £15 million.

This year we want to raise even more money to help change the lives of people affected by cancer. Find out about how Macmillan helps.

How did it start?

The event started in 1990, when a local fundraising committee decided to hold a coffee morning where people came along to meet and mingle - as they might ordinarily do - but donate the cost of their coffee to Macmillan in the process.
Child at a coffee morningThe idea seemed such a simple, yet effective one that they suggested the model be taken up nationally. The first National World’s Biggest Coffee Morning was in 1991, when 2,600 people registered to hold coffee mornings across the country. Since then it has raised over £75 million in total for Macmillan Cancer Support.

We hope you’ll get together with friends, family and colleagues on Friday 27 September and make time for what really matters."

You will be able to buy virtual cakes, tell your stories talk to each other and us if you want to ... donate straight to the website or via our collection box on the sim. The amount is recorded there and will be donated to the Macmillan fund at the end of the weekend where we have registered our team and site.

We are encouraging newbies to turn up also so don't worry about that...

Looking forward to seeing you xxxx
