The third annual International
Disability Rights Affirmation Conference, sponsored by Virtual Ability, Inc.,
will be held this week on Friday, September 27th and Saturday, 28th September
2013. This year's theme is "LET ME IN.” The sixteen conference sessions
highlight diverse perspectives on accessibility and accessibility legislation
from around the world.
Alice Krueger, president of
Virtual Ability, Inc., states: “For persons with disabilities, access to
information is critical. We must be included in research about the world, and
our needs must be considered in policy development. We also should have access
to buildings, transportation, and all the other resources used by persons who
do not have disabilities. Having access to the full function of communities in
which we engage is equally important. “Let me in” is a logical follow-up to
last year’s IDRAC conference which focused on communities people with
disabilities belong to.”
All sessions will take place
at The Sojourner Auditorium on Virtual Ability Island within Second Life .
An impressive list of
speakers has been brought together for the Conference, including Keynote
Speakers, Dr. Leticia De León and Dr John Stone.
Dr Leticia De Leon is an
Associate Professor at the University of Texas – Pan American. She teaches in a
teacher preparation program that certifies early childhood, bilingual, and
special education elementary teachers.
Dr. John Stone is the
Director of the Center for International Rehabilitation Research Information
and Exchange (CIRRIE) at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
The full times and details
of events and the speakers can be found at blog.virtualability.org together
